It's no surprise that the any progressive labor reform like card check is dead now that the Republicans are ensconsed in the House and have a deadlock in the Senate on any legislation. It's still a surprise how viciously they are going after Labor. Many states are attempting to pass "right to work" legislation, in which there is no way for unions to eliminate the "free rider" problem. That is to say, there is no way to require unionized employees to pay for their representation through a union security clause.
